Cal Simmons is one of the most trusted and recognized experts in the travel industry. In 1976, Cal founded Cal Simmons Travel, which became one of the top travel agencies in the country. He is a frequent speaker at industry events, and has served on the boards of several airlines, hotel companies and a rental car agency.Cal is also the co-founder and manager of three early-stage venture funds and in 2001, he co-authored the widely acclaimed investment guide, Every Business Needs an Angel, published by Random House. In 2002, he was appointed Chairman of the Virginia Tourism Corporation by the Governor of Virginia, and in that same year, published his first online travel guide, The Informed Traveler, which now reaches over 80,000 subscribers. Continuing his successes, he launched Five Star Alliance (FSA), an online agency featuring the world’s great hotels, in 2004. Recently, Cal launched www.SimmonsHotelGuides.com, a city by city collection of blogs featuring the world’s best hotels. Cal also publishes www.TravelOnion.com, which offers consumers the best travel deals, contests, and blogs all in one place.
Nathan Stone, the web developer for Travel Onion, is the founder of ASAP WebWorks and serves as its principal consultant. He has over ten years of experience designing websites, managing networks, and advising organizations on technology. His career includes stints on Capitol Hill, Government, Startups, and Higher Education. He has managed networks with ten offices and over 800 users, and web projects large and small. Nathan holds an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and B.S. in Economics and Public Policy from Duke University.
Charlotte Simmons, has extensive social media experience including YouTube Channels and creating Facebook, Tumblr, and LinkedIn communities. Charlotte has lived in Kentucky, Colorado, Virginia, and California while traveling throughout Europe, Africa, and Canada. “Driving across the country twice this year and traveling across Kenya and Tanzania really invigorated my love for seeing the world. I would definitely recommend driving through Utah and Colorado and standing on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania”.
Katherine Wynne is currently an undergraduate at George Washington University, and will graduate in 2014 with a B.A. in International Affairs. Originally from Calgary, Canada, Katherine began her career in the non-profits and has since been expanding her horizons into the private sector. With her experience, she hopes to apply for both Law and MBA degrees. When she is not travelling, Katherine serves as a member of Refugees International’s Young Humanitarian Circle, is an avid photographer, and classical musician.
