This winter will mark the 100th anniversary of Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott’s race to stand at the South Pole. Amundsen won when his boot soles hit the end of the earth on December 14, 1911, and the photographer Robert A. McCabe is publishing a book from his own overland Antarctic odyssey that he undertook 48 years later, in 1959. Check out a slideshow of some images from Robert McCabe’s journey, and if you’re curious about what it’s like to explore this region, take a look at ourAntarctica cruises.
